AVG Technologies adds Portland Europe to distribution portfolio

New agreement enables focus on SMEs throughout BeNeLux region

Amsterdam, The Netherlands, October 23, 2008 - AVG, a global anti-virus and Internet security software provider with over 80 million users in 167 countries, announced today the appointment of a new authorized distributor for Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxemburg. Portland Europe has been a leading player in BeNeLux distribution for more than ten years, and specializes in servicing the small and medium-sized business market.

“Users in BeNeLux countries are already well-acquainted with the AVG brand,” said AVG Technologies global sales vice-president Travis Witteveen. “We have both Dutch and French language versions of the products available now, so we are primed and ready to build our market share quickly. The SME sector already represents a significant percentage of our sales, and we look forward to increasing that percentage with the able assistance of Portland Europe.”

According to Eurostat, the statistical arm of the European Commission, the BeNeLux countries are among the leading European users of IT, particularly The Netherlands, where almost 80 percent of businesses have a website and 60 percent of employees use a computer at work.

“The Netherlands’ higher-than-average level of computer usage and internet connectivity also puts the Dutch at greater risk of exploitation by cybercriminals,” added AVG Global Security Strategist Larry Bridwell. “We look forward to increasing the number of businesses secured by AVG’s cutting-edge LinkScanner protection against drive-by downloads and other sophisticated cyber attacks.”

“We pride ourselves in offering only best-of-breed solutions, so we welcome the opportunity to make AVG’s network security products available to our customers,” said Portland Europe CEO Kim van Brugge. “Our core operating principles are based on quality and ease of use. Customers are looking established, reliable solutions that offer simple installation, central controls, and robust, unobtrusive protection. AVG’s products meet and exceed all of these criteria”.
